Multifunction phased array radars (MFPAR) can search and track multiple targets simultaneously with the beam agile capability. Therefore an effective scheduling mechanism is required that allocates the time and energy resources of radar to the radar functions in such a way that the overall performance of MFPAR is optimized. MFPAR has many scheduling mechanisms, such as fixed template, multi-template, partial template and adaptive scheduling algorithm. The adaptive scheduling algorithm is the most efficient scheduling mechanism to MFPAR.This paper focusing on the adaptive scheduling algorithm of MFPAR consists of three parts. Firstly, we describe the resource scheduling theory of MFPAR. And the types and design principles of scheduling mechanism are discussed in detail. Secondly, base on the time window we presented the design principles, criterions for performance evaluation and optimum model of algorithm. Two adaptive scheduling algorithms (fixed scheduling interval algorithm and varied scheduling interval algorithm) are presented which can schedule the dwell requests on the basis of their priority, dwell length, expected time of transmission and time window. And the validity of algorithm is proved by the results of simulation. Finally, mission scheduling as extend application of scheduling strategy is discussed.
