Laser marking is a most advanced technology and more and more become an effective method for industrial product mark at present time. The PCI Local Bus is a high performance, 32-bit or 64-bit bus with multiplexed address and data lines. The design combined the laser marking technology with PCI Local Bus in a laser marker controller card, which plays an important role in a computer controlled laser marker system. The design of a laser marker controller card based on PCI bus, including hardware development and drive program, is discussed in the paper. The basic configuration of PCI bus is introduced, as well as PCI9052, the core component in the card, which performs the control of PCI interface. The accession of a data-buffer storage is an effective measure to improve the reliability of data transfer. In this paper, the data is transferred via the PCI9052 direct data transfer, to a FIFO. The interface circuit and time logic of other chips that compose the card are also inferred. CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device), which is designed to control the time logic of the whole card, is described with the schematics or VHDL source program. At the end of the paper, the design of PCB and the development of driver program VxD are mentioned. In the practical measurement, the designed card has achieved these functions such as data buffer, D/A output, time pulse output and digital input/output. Compared with the general D/A output card based on PCI bus, the design is proved to be a success and the performance meets the expectations.
