Fiber laser as a novel laser has been developed rapidly in recent twenty years. It has good beam quality, high efficiency, compact, high stability and reliability. The focal spot is small and it is of high roundness and energy stability. In the field of laser processing with high requirement of processing depth, smoothness and fineness, fiber lasers have some incomparable advantages to other lasers. At present, fiber lasers become more and more widely used, and will definitely be the first choice in many fields.Laser processing technology has high efficiency, excellent quality, little environment pollution and good economic benefit. It can solve many difficult problems that traditional processing methods cann't solve, and it widely used in industry, agriculture, medical and research. Laser drilling technology is a type of laser separation techniques by laser heating. Laser beam is a heat source. It's the first practical technology of laser processing technologies and the most widely used field. Especially for hard and brittle materials, because the common method is difficult to realize, the laser drilling is very important such as diamond drawing die, stainless mesh, ceramic substrate laser drilling, ect.Fiber laser was first used in marking technology and was very mature. At present, market share of fiber laser marker is higher and higher, and has widely been used in many fileds such as IC chips, computer fittings, bearings, clocks, aerospace equipments, food packaging, ect. In this paper, laser drilling of steel foils by fiber laser marker was studied, the influence of the drilling process by laser power, laser scanning speed, laser pulse frequency and the the diameter of scanning circle were analyzed, and a way to improve drilling quality was proposed. It was found experimentally that the size of the hole increased with the increase of laser power, and decreased with the increase of laser scanning speed, laser pulse frequency has little effect on the size of the hole, the size of the hole increased with increasing the diameter of locus circle. However, when the diameter of locus circle increased to a certain value, the diameter of the hole reduced and the quality of the hole declined. The method of increasing the laser scanning speed and increasing the time of drilling can improve the quality of the hole. This paper has extended the application range of fiber laser marker and given a technical guidance for laser drilling of steel foils.
