Design & Implement On Network Management System For Campus Network Based On SNMP

With the popularity of Internet applications, an emerging problem is how to guarantee the network devices work reliably, safely, and efficiently. For various network devices and their software, a good network management system can provide effective supervision, explanation and control. Therefore, network management is a very important issue of the research of network technologies.Most campus networks are lack of good network management systems. Current campus network cannot efficiently manage network because of its low-level management mode. There are lots of commercial network management software. Although they have excellent functionalities, what they provide is a general network management platform, just like operation system. Only on this platform, combining with every organization's network management software, it is meaningful for network management when we construct network management application systems that satisfy specific requirements.Therefore, this thesis studies the actual standard of network management ?SNMP protocol and develops a network management system for campus network based on SNMP.The first two chapters of this thesis present the current status and development trend of network management and briefly introduce some popular network management software. Then, the concept and basic functionality of network management are described and various structures of network management modes are analyzed in detail.This thesis studies the simple network management protocol (SNMP). SNMP is the most widely used network management protocol and the network management system for campus network presented by this thesis is just based on SNMP protocol. Considering the compatibility of networkmanagement system, the third chapter introduces the origin and development of SNMP and explains the three versions of the protocol, SNMPvl, SNMPv2 and SNMPvS in detail.Chapter four illustrates the design and implementation process of network management system for campus network. Making use of SNMP technologies, for every 'single device, the network management system provides functionalities like configuration management, performance management and invalidation management. It also implements the MIB browser for convenient seeking of MIB information. The flow collection part can collect all flow coming in and going out of the campus network. This will be the basis for campus network charging.
