GPRS is the new technology transition from GSM toward 3G network that provides the new packet switch service to the GSM Subscriber, via introduce new GSN network element. According to the postponement of 3G evolvement, GPRS is the unique choice for the carrier to provide mobile user the high speed data service.Now the GPRS market is not good enough because of the bad quality , the lack of application and the billing strategy. Bad quality is the most important fact to extend the GPRS service. If we can find the way to improve the GPRS quality, we will find a great area to expand the GSM and GPRS network and service.We test the GPRS quality through the user part and the IP statistic. Split the GPRS network into the radio part and the core part. We find out the bottleneck of the GPRS performance through test and locate the key of the performance.We base on the test result and the knowledge of GPRS analyses each performance bottleneck, find out the way optimize the GPRS performance from the GPRS/GSM network side, and presume the best effect of these optimization. Then We bring out the integrated solution combine the optimization OF GPRS and adjustment of TCP/IP protocol stack. According to the result of GPRS network analysis, We optimize the TCP/IP protocol stack on the IP layer, TCP layer and the application layer to fit the GPRS transmission situation. Finally, We bring out two integrated solution depend on the current application character using on the GPRS network to improve the GPRS quality when carry on the IP service.
