As the computer itself, although it may processes massive information in the very short time, a computer itself can only work in the limited scope, even if its storage capacity greatly is also extremely limited. Therefore, the computer network technology arises at the historic moment. The International Standardization Organization divides the computer network into the different level according to the different functions. In the computer network function realization, data link layer undertaken the very vital role.Data link layer's function is mainly the framing and the transmission, the link management, the flow control, the error control and so on. Link Access Procedure Balanced (LAPB) is the data link layer protocol. It takes on the data link layer function in the X.25 network and it is responsible to manage correspondence and the data packet frame organization process between DTE equipment and DCE equipment's in X.25 network. Simultaneously the LAPB protocol may also realize the data link layer function in the TCP/IP protocol stack; therefore its application is also very widespread. In this article, I have described the process of developing the LAPB protocol in routers. I have put forward the function module of it after I study and analysis the LAPB protocol. I am focus on the process of comprehending, developing and improving the LAPB protocol in this article.I have developed the LAPB protocol module on routers; I have developed the software which aims at transfer information from one computer to the other. Besides this, I have tested and analyzed it in detail. After this, I have put forward some ideas of improving LAPB, so as to make the transferring more efficiently.
