Digital technology now has been the most important and marked character in the information society and digital video technology has been the focus of the progress of communication, multimedia, broadcasting and computer industry. Digital TV based on MPEG-2 not only concentrates most of the new technology of its field, but also promotes many new technologies in related domains. It accelerates the integration of broadcasting, computer networks and communication.In this thesis, MPEG-2 system layer's principle algorithms and applications are studied. MPEG-2 brings forward the concept of system layer transport stream compared to MPEG-1. Now in fact, MPEG-2 transport stream has been the common standard in digital TV field. How to rationally distribute digital TV programs in channel, how to synchronize video and audio in one program, all these need research in MPEG-2 system layer. Multiplexing re-multiplexing and deMux are the key technology for the MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) applications. In this thesis, the algorithms of Multiplexing, re-multiplexing and deMUX are analyzed in detail. Then, the realization of the re-multiplexer and deMUXer is put forward.The video transport on the Internet is the direction of image communication. However, the TCP, used widely in current network, is proposed for data communication, and is not suitable for the multimedia communication that is very sensitive to the real-time. The User Datagram Protocol (UDP) pulsing Real-time Transfer Protocol (RTF) simplifies the regulations in transfer layer, hence, the datagram can be transferred quickly. In multimedia communication, the RTP is preferred. In this paper, a new modified RTP is brought forward. In addition the RTP is introduced and realized with C in windows. Based on RTP, a scheme is constructed to transfer MPGE-2TS datagram by multicast.
