Along with the high-speed development and popularity of Internet, Browse/Server application system based on web is developing continuously. As a result, a lot of traditional information systems are transferred to execute on Internet/Intranet. So there are more and more strict demands for web application system, and it should have high expansibility, logical efficiency, better security and stability. Multi-tier distributed application system can meet such demands. Combining web technology and Distributed Object technologies, Web architecture is established. COM (Component Object Model) is the main technology of distributed application. The middleware logical tier based on COM can establish a steady, easy maintained and easy upgraded application system. Microsoft Windows DNA is a kind of distributed application architecture based on windows platform. It is based on COM/COM+, ASP, OLE DB/ADO, and can build distributed multi-tier application system with high reliability, expansibility and maintainability. This paper mainly discusses and researches on Windows DNA and COM component technology. In light of Jockey Club Account Management System, this paper designs a kind of multi-tier distributed application system, which is very suitable for large-scale management systems. The main content of this paper is described as follows: Firstly, introduces Distributed Object technologies and Windows DNA respectively, mostly analyses their architectures and points out their features and advantages, then discusses Component Object Model and researches the key componentin Windows DNA--COM and COM+. Thirdly, expounds multi-tier applicationsystem based on COM technology--"Jockey Club Account Management System". Inthis part, this paper analyses the project background at first. Then, discusses the demand analysis of the system and gives us the whole project and choice of technology. Subsequently, according to Windows DNA, designs the system in detail, including pages design, component and object design, database design and so on. At last, this paper discusses two critical issues--system security and performance, and gives us thedetailed solutions. The whole process of developing distributed application system based on COM component is expounded in this paper.
