The Study On Library Evaluation

As an important library management method, the utility and evolution of the library evaluation is much caused from the progression in library circle, and it fits needs to library's management. From 20century 30th, people have learned and it is obvious that library evaluation has strong power to push library professions upstairs.The library evaluation is also a subject that combined with scientific theories and objective practices. For about 70 years, the library evaluation theories had been deeply developed, its theory systems had well been built, its function and effects to enhance the library's service had become more and more obviously. In recent years, the library evaluation has emerged two new trends. One is because of the blossom of the user evaluating, many western countries were paying great attention to library service quality evaluating activity. The other is the network and digitalized constructions in libraries have gained outstanding accomplishments, the networked information service activities are wildly provided. This aroused anxious wishes to build a new library evaluation framework to dealing with library evaluation activity in networked environment.This paper systematically summarizes the fruits of library evaluation's study in resent years. Based on briefly clarifying the elementary principles of library evaluation theory and review the course of study and practice of library evaluation, it discusses the contents of library evaluation index system, the procedures andmethods of library evaluating, and especially discusses the evaluation of library service quality, the rebuild of library evaluation index system and the evaluate methods of library evaluation in the networked environment. Besides, it also draws my own opinion and suggestion to it. It may provides the reference value to rebuild and reform the library evaluation index system for our nation's ordinary university and college libraries, and be useful to the approaching library evaluation activities.
