Electric cable is one of essential infrastructures of the power supply system. With the expanding of the scale of power network and the increasing of the application of power cable, the maintenance of modern large-scale power network fail the traditional manual administrative mode. However, in itself, Electric cable varies in types, is dispersedly located, and leads to complicated operation circumstances. As a result, the usage of modern computer methodology to administrate the information of power cable, and to ensure its credibility is suggested to be an important research aspect. In addition, the GIS-based Electric cable information management system introduced in this paper should be a feasible solution.Field study on both the operation method and the information administrative mode of power cable, and the data from analysis of demand induced the pattern of data stream and processing. The development of the GIS-based Electric cable information management system solution also considered the recent conditions of the operation and administration of Electric cable in the local power administrative bureau. Due to the distribution properties of power network, this paper indicated the fact that Electric cable network is more than power facility- it provides thegeographic information as well. In addition, this paper suggested Global Position System (GPS) technique as a method to acquire the distribution pattern of power cable. And so, the GIS-based Electric cable information management system can administrate transformer substation, switch substation, power distribution room, power cable, silo, canal and high voltage user according to their location, drawings, cable records. The system provides multiple index for query service and statistical Electric cable graph and information on properties. The operation, maintenance, examination and repair, and bug-management, and incident-management can all be administrated by the omnidirectional administrative service, which offeres a preferable solution for Electric cable integrated administration and advanced the operation of power cable.
