Wearable computer is a totally new generation of computer, which has many special properties and features. The hardware system of wearable computer is different from the general computer due to these properties and features, and it takes its own special architecture, implementation and hardware technology. Presently, there are limited researches on the hardware architecture of wearable computer, which is being an obstacle of making wearable computer hardware standards and implementation approach. This paper systemically analyzes the function, problem and restriction of wearable computer hardware system, then works out a type of wearable computer hardware system reference model. Then analyzes tow main implementation approaches - centralized host system and distributed host system, summarizes the existing overseas prototypes and design, points out the disadvantage of them, provides related promoting approaches, set up some relatively appropriate schemes. Wearable computer hardware system reference model mainly describes the components and the composing patterns of the system. It's involved with system definition, function modules model, module connections model and the reference model of system architecture. The system definition resolves problems that wearable hardware system is facing - function set, specification set and restriction set. The function modules model abstract the common properties of wearable computer hardware modules - properties set and relationships set, providing the general design principles and method. The modules connection models describe the connection type and the connection transmission pattern, revolving the interconnection between wearable computer hardware modules. At last, a type reference model of wearable computer hardware system is worked out based on the three aspects above. The centralized host system implementation is the dominating approach of wearable computer hardware systems, among which the MIT's Lizzy and ZeroSpin's Ripley are the most classic. The main problems of them are concentrated in bus architecture, mechanical structure and heat dispatch method. This paper works out optimized bus architecture, a mechanical structure that takes compressibility into account, and an improved heat dispatch method without fans. The distributed host system implementation is the main trending of wearable computer hardware system. However, the typical system MIThril has still manydisadvantages in connections between the distributed modules - Body Bus and Body Network, and the wearing pattern that lacking consideration of human factor. In this paper, we work out a connection method using new 3GIO bus standard and wireless technology, and a relatively appropriate wearing pattern that takes human factor into account.
