The traditional concentrated project for backup depends on IP network as data route, so only transmited data will cause bandwidth saturation. The result is period of backup often excesses preplanned time. For solving the problem in concentrated backup, those computer scientists brought forward a new type of network conception, that is Storage Area Network (SAN).The SAN makes it true that storage resources can be devided from servers, and can provide high performance data pipe with 100 MB/s and shared storage devices managed concentrically. This makes data access, backup and restore will not reduce performance of network largely. This removes people's misgiving for bandwidth of network. Simultaneously, the SAN based on Fibre Channel-Arbitrated Loop(FC-AL) has conveniece, expansibility, high fault_tolerated ability, high reliability and agility of configuration, and supports heterogeneous servers such as UNIX, NT and NetWare to link at the same time so as to be able to reduce total holding cost.The storage managing system based on SAN, Storage Resource Manager, which is a mangement configuration system with complete functions. It provides with abilities of detecting broken_down of network devices and separating automatically, data management, storage resources management, security management and file management. The software was designed and implemented according to a perfect set of software engineering specification. Therfore, it has the advantages of stability, robusticity and convenient maintenance. And the following results are achieved:1. Introduction the all-inclusive concept of SAN , especially the three components of SAN structure : the hardware ,the software and the protocol.2. Analyzed the system architecture of Storage Resoure Management which based on SAN. Participated in design and implementation of the Main module and the Fault circularization module.3. Comparison construct between SAN-based backup system and other backup systems. Analysis the performance factor that can influence the backup system, and also compared some kinds of backup operation and restore operation.4. Brought forward the point for replication based on SAN. Participated in design implementation, transporting and testing of the Replication module.The system is implemented in ANSI C, according with POSIX specification. The platform-dependent code is separated by compile option in source code. After thesource code is compiled in each platform, it can be used in Windows, Solaris and Linux platform.
