LDP Protocol Conformance Test Research

As the rapid growth of the Internet scale, how to extend the kinds of Internet service and improve the quality of the service is the most important problem which people concerned. Because neither IP nor ATM technology can solve this problem alone, so we need combine these two ways together. MPLS technology combines the merit of switch in the core and IP route technology in the edge of Internet. The core of MPLS is the LDP protocol, LDPprovides the means for plentiful label distribute and relevant function process by its core mechanism.Protocol test has three kinds of tests: Protocol Conformance test, Mutual Operation test, Function test. Among these tests, Protocol Conformance test mainly verify the protocol realization accuracy of the network products, and judge whether these protocol realization of network products conform to the national standard. So it can make sure the communication between the protocols of different editions. That is Protocol Conformance test is the most fundamental test and it is the base of the other two tests. Protocol test is an efficient way to guarantee the quality of protocols implementations. But currently the efforts and the achievements are mainly focusing on the test of communication protocols with a much less work about the new protocols such as LDP protocol and cannot reflect the characteristic of those new protocols well. The applicability of existing test methods and systems are facing the challenge of inadequacy. Now the test of new protocols is both the focus of the researchers and the necessary phrase of the network equipment production.Firstly this paper introduces the concept of the protocol Conformance and the way to implement protocol Conformance testing. In addition, it also introduces the TTCN language in detail. After the deep inspection of the features of LDP and analyze the currently the efforts and the achievements of the routing protocols, this paper summarizes the scope and content thatshould be tested for LDP protocol. It provides the theory for the Protocol Conformance test on LDP protocol.Next this paper specifies our LDP test suites in detail. It compiles these suites according to the methods defined in the IS09646. Testing topology and ATS written with TTCN can be seen in this chapter 4. The rate of coverage of these test suites is very high, including all the standard tests in RFC 3036.And the test suites formalization avoids the test ambiguity. The international standard work flow makes the general utilization of the testsuites.Lastly after the test activity including the test of high end routers of CISCO and ZXR10T64 router, quite a lot errors and problems are found and large amount of technical details of LDP protocol are known. All these will give a strong support for the development of the high performance core router. One the other hand, during the test, the correctness and the validity of all the phases of the LDP protocol conformance test is also proved indubitably. Through all these work, the test of routing protocols as a whole has acquired quite a lot valuable references. The exploration of the test theory, test method for the Label Distribution protocols paves the way for the test system of the next generation capable to test control protocols in MPLS technology.In the end of this paper, it summarizes the all test work of the thesis, and prospect the development tendency of Protocol Conformance test in the future.
