In recent years, the international country regards Internet as the medium at the positive development the three generations distance education. Putting modern distance education engineering into practice have the important meaning for sharing excellent teaching resources, extending educational scope, realizing course advantage, increasing a new kind of form and developing life long education system. The distance education is used as a kind of brand-new teaching method, it applies computer technique and network correspondence techniques to teaching realm, breaking the traditional education for region and horary restricts. It produces important but profound influence in the education idea, content of course, teaching method of the school and the whole education construction.Similar to HTML, the XML is a subset of the SGML. It is a general language for more in keeping with Web distribute environment. HTML more resembles an uses easily of read the machine, simple practical however not accurate, then express ability is limited. However the XML has got the enormous flexibility and the vividness that HTML lack of. The XML application is gradually widely accepted. The different profession describes the information by XML. The XML designed a set of norm for the multimedia synthesization and demonstration, calling Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL). The SMIL aim is to gather the multimedia object into the synchronous performance. It can combine the text, picture, audio, video, animation etc. together. The SMIL allows customers to write the alternant multimedia contents.This paper applies the XML synchronous medium technique inindependence and asynchronism distance education based on WWW. Wecreated the multimedia network distance education teaching resources of the《Technology Information Index》 course, developed a multimedia coursedevelopment system for independence and asynchronism distance education based on WWW and realized the multimedia courseware release and distributing save.The research result of this thesis:1. The system applies SMIL based on XML, relying on the RealServer platform of the RealNetworks company. We put forward a kind of new form that has more outstanding network courseware demonstration in independence and asynchronism distance education based on WWW.2. The network courseware form making use of the SMIL and streaming media technique solves the delay over long and saving space shortage that caused by network bandwidth in the past. And the customers can't download the streaming media documents. Also they can't spread again, so it protects the copyright of the creators.3. Making use of SMIL's advantage in manufacturing network synchronous multimedia courseware changes the blemish of content of course based on HTML that is hard synchronous, monotonous etc.4. For making the lifeless theories study the more relaxed and easy to comprehension, the network courseware adds videos with the real voice and the spot circumstance, so increase the attention of the learners, mobilize the positive of the learners, enhance the memory result of the study, make up the study lifeless and lowly weakness in efficiency on the very big degree.
