The newer generation of PDM centers on delivering innovative products to market more quickly and managing intellectual asset.Items are separated into groups based on the characteristic attributes. It's important in application of PDM. Code Search for design retrieval provides the designer the ability to rapidly access a similarly coded part from database. CAD files can be viewed through PDM.Coding system and PDM serve each other.Referring to the theory and technology of a GT-based information classifying coding system framework, we design a part classifying coding system. It consists of identification code, classification code and feature items.The Windchill system of PTC is based on the thought of Collaboration Product Commerce (CPC), Internet and Web-based technologies. It's three-tier B/W/D frame. Customers, partners and suppliers work collaboratively across wide networks through effective management of the full product lifecycle.The part classifying coding system is a client/server framework. It is an interactive software to code mechanical parts using classification schemes and to manage part's attributes. Parts are classified into groups and standardized by using it. The classified parts are the bases of modular products. Class CsPart is a program interface provided for Windchill system. Windchill system can access and modify parts' parameters using this class, so the two systems can keep the integrity of data and realize information integration.Two systems form B/W/D-C/S commix scheme.
