Gear transmission is one of the main forms of transmission and motion in mechanical transmission, having the advantages of constant power transmission, large ratio coverage and power range, reliable compact structure, etc. It has been used widely in various kinds of mechanical equipment, instruments and meters, making up the largest types of transmission in current mechanical products.Gears are typical key-basic-parts in Equipment Manufacturering Industry. At present, the annual output value of the gear production industry is 128 billion at home and it is developing towards specialization and large scale. Additionally, a gear part is characterized by its specific functions, distinguishing features and high level of similarity. Therefore,researches on gear standardization can be carried on from the perspective of the gear structural design based on the theory of similarity. And the present thesis has proposed a feasible solution to this situation. It is developed as follows,First, the characteristics of gear products have been analyzed and further contents and implementing processes of gear standardization have been put forward; combined with group technology, possible solutions to gear standardization have been explored.Second, gear classification and coding systems at home and abroad have been analyzed and compared in detail, with their advantages and disadvantages revealed. Combined with key technical characteristics of gear products, principles for a 28-code gear classification and coding system have been proposed and interpreted respectively. With reference to the core features of gear products and rolling bearing identification code sequences,a 6-product-identification-code system has been designed, which promotes gear standardization in the gear manufacturer enterprise.Third, by employing Visual Basic6.0 and SQL Server2000,a Computer Aided Gear Classification and Coding System oriented to Client/Server has been developed, through which 28-code and 6-product-identification-code are generalized automatically.Fourth, the findings of the system have been analyzed and parts of similar structures and their technical characteristics have been collected, leading to the formation of gear typical parts.Fifth, the Computer Aided Gear Classification and Coding System has been applied and works well. The 6-product-identification-code has been integrated into PDM, CAPP and ERP, which ensures that every gear product has its own code when circulating in the factory. It has promoted the standardization of gear design and process.
