In VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) system, the transmission and display of radar original video signal is very important. At present, the radar signal is transmitted and recorded mainly in analog form, which has many obvious shortcomings. So a digital radar signal acquisition, processing and compression system is put forward using the chip of FPGA and DSP and the theory of wavelet transform in this paper.Three parts are included in this design: radar signal acquisition, clutter suppression and signal compression. On hardware, signal acquisition and simple preprocessing is completed in FPGA, clutter suppression is achieved in DSP and the third part compression is done in host.Two algorithms are discussed in theory: one is the algorithm of clutter suppression. The clutter suppression based wavelet transform has the good capability in suppressing many kinds of clutter and it can greatly improve signal-to-noise ratio, So it is used in this design and a few correlative problems such as the selection of mother wavelet are discussed in this paper. The other one is the algorithm of original radar video compression. For the dependency of radar video signal in twodimension is very similar to that of image signal, a radar image compression method using wavelet transform is used consulting the traditional and up to date image compression methods. At the same time, the experiment results are given in this paper. At last, a conclusion is drawn that the compressed original radar video signal can be transmitted with a narrowband and recorded in longtime with a normal hard disk.
