As a basic of Network Management System (NMS),network automatic topology disco very (NATD) reappears the view of network and provides a means for Configuration Management (CM),Fault Management (FM). With the demands of native network management and international network security,it is of great significance for a copyright to research effective tool of network topology discovery.This thesis focuses on researching TCP/IP-based NATD according to CM needs. First of all,the basic network management theories are introduced briefly,and the functions request is also described. Then,it studies foundational knowledge and common realization of NATD. After placing stress on exploring the way of network topology discovery,which level delegated by three institution,it evaluates the advantage and insufficient respectively. Moreover,a layering way of topology discovery is brought forward,which thinking is to search network in two degrees in terms of the layering of network without increasing arithmetic complication. The aim of first phase is to detect routers and subnets. The second is to get some information,such as,the hosts in subnets,the type of subnets,etc. The principle of first phase is to adopt SNMP-based RoutingTable method. While,to detect hosts in subnets by means of ARP-based and SNMP-based way. With this understanding,it designs an algorithm and gives its C++ realization. And a useful GUI tool for Intranet algorithm-based is provided as well. Finally,network topology build algorithm is summarized and discussed,and a practical way is given also.
