Encryption always plays a very important roll in the information security area, as the development of the computer science and technology, The old Encryption Standard: Data Encryption Standard(DES) can no longer meet the need of people to protect their information, in the next 20 years, Advanced Encryption Standard(AES) will replace DES and become the new Encryption Standard of information security technology.This thesis first discussed the theory of AES algorithm, then described its process and structure, based on the structure ,we completed the ASIC design of AES encryption and decryption algorithm when key length is 128bits.in the course of design, we use ACTIVE-VHDL OF ALDEC CO. as the simulation tool, and SYNPLIFY of SYNPLICITY CO. as synthesizing tool, FOUNDATION of XILINX as routing tool, the simulation results indicate the correctness of the circuit design.
