The present article analyzes the pol itical,economical and cultural background in which the press in Zigong (1912-1949) originated and expanded,and its development in different periods,and more importantly studies the relationship between the press and the salt industry in Zigong,and probes the problems in its advertisements. On the above,this article makes the conclusion that there are five elementary features of the Press in Zigong from 1912 to 1949. This article consists of six parts.Part I The existing soil of the press in Zigong,the Republic of China (1912-1949). With the concept of "Zigong in the Republic of China" ,this part demarcates the research region and period of the press in Zigong,mainly demonstrates the economical,political and cultural background in which the press-originated and developed.Part II This part introduces the important newspapers and the chief news agencies in the three main development periods of the press,and discuss its features and development.Part III This part discusses the relationship between the press andthe politics from the two stands of the political inclination of the press and Kuomintang' s (KMT) administration.Part IV This part discusses the relationship hctween the salt industry and the press from the former' s financial support and the latter' s propaganda for each other.Part V This part mainly probes the ads problems existing in the press management,and demonstrates the ads charge,layout and context,etc.,which reflects the politics,the economy,the culture and the social life,etc.Par VI Conclusion-the five elementary features:l.latcbeginning,rapid development 2. Mainly run by civilians 3.short service life 4. weak political inclination chiefly reflecting patriotism and national salvation 5. Salt industry being one of the decisive factors for its survival...
