On Disaster Events Coverage

Based on a comprehensive and indepth review of the history and current situation of disaster news, the author has put forward his own suggestions to improve the coverage of disaster events.Our country has adhered to the priciple of "focusing the propaganda on the positive side of our society" for so long that it has led to current backwardness and weakness of disaster events coverage in both theory and pratice. Disaster events coverage is becoming more and more important in these years with progressive construction of the social system of democracy and law, and with the rapid development of communication technology.Disasters have their inherent newsiness, and that a proper coverage of disaster can play a unique role in the fighting and prevention of disasters, in ridding the public psychology of horror and in helping investigation the causes of disasters. The coverage itself has an obviously positive effect on the construction of law and democracy and on the creation of good image of our country.In current situation, reports on disaster news has the tendency of large amount with a clear transparency and its major role is promoted. Whereas, at the same time, corresponding difficulties emerge. Under such conditions, experience should be borrowed, sense of responsibility should be strengthed. And then, the media would promote its reporting quality, pay much attention to humanitic love and obey the current regularities to meet the new need of the sociaty.
