Design And Implementation Of Cable Modem

In this paper, we review firstly the evolution of contemporary CATV-HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) from traditional cable networks and concisely introduce the relative standards designed to facilitate the implementation of data services over HFC cable networks. There is an integrated description of system architecture and fundamentals of cable modem based on MCNS DOCSIS, one of these standards. And then, a concrete implementation scheme is shown by the author according to DOCSJS standard. The major work in the paper includes choice of chip and other components, designing the hardware circuit and wiring, software and hardware programming, and so on. The testing results of system have been also given, attaching the analysis of the outcome. At the end of this paper, some new tactics of service expansion are devised and detailed schemes are posed, which will take a challenge of broadband access for CATV.
