The application of a new technology in the field of education tends to have a significant impact on educational idea, educational model and instructional methods and so on. However, whether the introduction of new technologies actually can effectively promote classroom teaching and lead into real pedagogical revolution depends on the specific application and true effectiveness in practice. The interactive whiteboard (IWB), a new technology developed in recent years, is prone to be favored by many famous experts and scholars and applied in the classroom of some countries and regions, with the supposed advantage of "high technology integration, strong resource integration capability and good interactive function". This study generalizes and analyzes IWB's application and relevant findings in the international research. Using those findings as reference, this study also analyzes to what extent the two major intended functions, promoting the development and application of learning resources and improving the degree of classroom interaction, are actualized. The thesis then compares findings between our classrooms and foreign classrooms and discusses the ways of solving problems. This study focuses on these two questions. Firstly, how teachers use IWB to teach in the classroom; secondly, whether teachers can play the intended function of IWB effectively in classroom teaching. In order to know about present situation of IWB application in Chinese classroom and make certain that the extent of its intended function in the current classroom teaching, this study makes an analysis and research on 34 Chinese classes using IWB. The study analyzes the actual application of IWB in classroom and tries to find the reasons. And with reference to the advanced international experience, this study will find some effective teaching methods of using IWB by teachers, and discuss the effective way to integrate information technology and subject teaching. This thesis is divided into five parts, including the introduction, the structure, working principles and models of IWB, the analysis of IWB's resource repository usage, the analysis of IWB's interactivity and the conclusion. Firstly, the introduction section introduces research background, domestic and foreign research status, and expounds the research question, methods, purpose and significance. Next, the second chapter introduces the structure, working principles and models of the IWB from a technical point of view so that readers can understand the hardware structure and types of this kind of technology simply. In the third chapter, the author analyzes IWB's resource repository usage from the perspectives of resource sources and presentation ways respectively after observing 34 Chinese classroom videos, and puts forward some related suggestions based on absorbing foreign experience. Likewise, the fourth chapter makes an analysis of the interactivity of IWB on the basis of observing classroom videos. After discovering the limitations of human-computer interaction and human-human interaction in the classroom, combined with relevant foreign research and the specific practice in China, the author puts forward some recommendations on the operational level and under the macroscopic angle. Finally, in the conclusion section, the two research questions are answered. The study finds that teachers'teaching philosophy has no qualitative change; their use of the IWB is just a functional replacement with new technology to replace old one rather than creating more self-inquiry space for students. This study analyzes the causes of this phenomenon, and discusses it from two perspectives of the relationship between technology and culture, as well as the relationship between technology and society.
