Objective :The biggest human health factor in the world today is smoking, however is a preventable risk factors. Statistics show that the current number of smoker in our country today is 340million. A staggering 70% of the smokers are male over the age of 20, smoking amongst high school students have also risen to 30%. Over the past 10 years, the number of smokers in our country have been increasing on a 7% yearly rate, the age of the smokers are also shifting from middle age, elders to teenagers. At the moment, even though teenage tobacco consumption is lower than adult tobacco consumption, however many adult smokers established the habbit when they were teenagers, thus, the key targets of smoking prevention are teenagers.A smoking health-risk behaviour research and follow-up survey was conducted on the teenagers of Heze. The research investigated teenagers between the age of 12-20 to discuss some of the factors contributing to teenage smoking, thus providing Heze with basic information to come up with a prevention and intervention plan, to assist each teenage smoker according to their individual characteristics.Methods :This research spread out amongst Heze covering 3 distric cities, choosing a total number of 6 schools. Students of 18 classes from Junior High School, High School and Vocational High School and 4 classes from secondary vocational school, with their parents, a total number of 1160 people are surveyed. The survey was conducted using self-designed questionnaires, trained professionals explained to the students and their parents the purpose of the questionnaire and what they are trying to achieve, and intructions to how to fill out the questionnaire, all students and parents were free willingly choosing whether to paticipate, thus creating absolute trust and confidenence while working together. All questionnaires was handed out and collected at the same time. All questionnaires were anonymous and used SPSS statistical analysis software 8.0 to collect the final result.Results :The result showed that in Heze, there are 36.40% high school smokers, amongst those, 55.78% are male smokers and 9.96% female smokers. However the degree of high school smokers differs due to where they live, what school they attend and what year they are.Conclusions:This research shows that even though the percentage of high school students smoking in Heze is reasonably high, however most of the teenage smokers are only casual smokers and have yet to establish a smoking habbit. But the age of teenagers starting to experiment with smoking have decreased, thus with age increase and study pressure increases, their smoking habbit will also increase. Therefore the school health education provider must give correct guidence and constantly improve the health behaviours of adolenscent, enhance their consciousness of self-care and health knowledge.
