Fear of failure is developed on the basis of the achievement motive originally. With the development of study, the researchers found that fear of failure tend to be an emotional experience much more. In this study, we defined fear of failure as a negative emotion which was aroused because a goal was not likely expected to reach in individual's achievement situation.This study is based on Conroy's theory of fear of failure, we do further validation in Chinese Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory of ZhuoGuoXiong from Taiwan. The secondary students participated in this research and this study discusses the relationship between parenting style,parent-child communication and fear of failure. The following was the findings based on the study:1. The reversed scale of Chinese Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory has good validity and reliability.2. There is significant difference of Chinese secondary students' fear of failure in gender, but not in grade. The score of Girls is significantly higher than that of boys in fear of experiencing shame and embarrassment and fear of devaluing their self-estimate.3. There is significant negative correlation between parenting authoritativeness and fear of failure. There is not significant difference and prediction in fear of experiencing shame and embarrassment. There are significant differences and predictions among fear of devaluing one's self-estimate ,fear of interest losing from important others, fear of upsetting important others.4. There is significant negative correlation between parent-child communication and fear of failure, and there is significant negative prediction on fear of failure. The predictor of fear of experiencing shame and embarrassment is 7.3%, the predictor of fear of devaluing one's self-estimate is 6.9%, the predictor of fear of interest losing from important others is 9.3%, the predictor of fear of upsetting important others is 7.7%,the total score of the predictor of fear of failure is 13.4%.5. Parenting authoritativeness and parent-child communication both can predict fear of failure.
