Under the background of the continuous improvement of instant messaging technology and Internet platform services, smartphones,as the current technology leader, play multiple roles in parent-child relationships, such as communication bridges and emotional ties, especially in conflict situations to assist both parents and children in managing and maintaining their relationships. This paper examines the use of smartphones as a means of mediation in parent-child conflict and the ways in which it can be realised, and on this basis examines and reflects on the technological ethics and technological rationality of media technology in the digital lives of families.Specifically, this paper uses smartphone use as the independent variable,parent-child conflict resolution as the dependent variable, and family communication style as the mediating variable, and classifies families into four types according to their communication styles: consistent, pluralistic, conservative and permissive. The study also explored the mechanisms underlying the use of smartphones in parent-child conflict management and the ways in which they are implemented. The findings show that consensual families are the most common, followed by pluralistic families and protective families, while laissez-faire families are less common;smartphones have a moderating effect on parent-child conflict, but mainly occur in consensual and pluralistic families, but not in protective and laissez-faire families;family communication patterns are mediators of the moderating effect of smartphones;and the moderating effect of smartphones varies by family type. The pathways through which smartphones achieve their moderating function vary according to family type, from attachment and compliance in consensual families to equality and negotiation in pluralistic families, but in protective and laissez-faire families, smartphones can also influence parent-child communication through the pathways of authoritarianism and control in the former, and alienation and avoidance in the latter, despite their lack of moderating function in parent-child conflict. The former manifests itself as a path of authority and control, while the latter manifests itself as a path of alienation and avoidance.Currently, there are still many problems in the realisation of the mediation function of smartphones in parent-child conflicts, which are mainly reflected in the lack of perceived usefulness, the inequality of authority relations and the infection of negative emotions. In order to better utilise the adaptive function of smartphones,it is necessary to embrace new technologies to dissolve temporal and spatial distances, value digital feedbacks to achieve equal dialogue, and actively regulate emotions to learn to think differently. The adaptive function of smartphones in parent-child conflict is influenced by a variety of factors,so it is not just a simple picture of parent-child communication, but should be examined in depth in the context of everyday life and social development. |
