As America's famous educationist, Ernest L.Boyer is a figure with international impact on the American higher education. He has made important contributions to the reform and development of American higher education, and his academic thinking have had a far-reaching impact on the world of higher education. The study of his academic thinking can not only enrich our higher education academic ideas, but can provide an example for the reform of higher education in China.Based on the analysis of domestic and foreign scholars 'research about Boyer's academic thinking, this paper described how Boyer's life and the educational activities he engaged in effect his academic ideas. Then, this paper focuses on analysis of the 20th century 70,80 era of American politics, the economic educational background and the evolution of academic ideas in American higher education ,which effect the formation of Boyer's academic thinking. With the purpose of deep analysis of Boyer's academic thinking, this paper connects his academic thinking with the times Boyer lived in. On this basis, the paper analyzes Boyer's vision of teacher evaluation and incentive systems as well as colleges and universities how to position themselves. Finally, the paper summarizes ideological characteristics of academic thinking of Ernest L.Boyer, and elucidates the influence of Boyer's academic thinking on the American and the world higher education in the theory and practice. It also analyzes its significance of our current teachers evaluation and different types of university academic position.
