The environment plays a unique role in an individual's development, and the environment of kindergarten can affect the children's development. Therefore, more and more people pay attention to kindergarten environment, and explore the educational function of it.The kindergarten walls, as important parts of the kindergarten environment, also have the incumbent of education, but not be recognized accordingly. In many people's opinion, the kindergarten wall displays are just ornament. Then it's significant to recognize the educational function of kindergarten wall design.Six kindergartens in Shanghai are chosen as objects in this research. Multiple methods of data collection were adopted including on-site observation, interview and questionnaire analysis. All the records were transcribed and read repeatedly. Themes, comments and ideas emerging during this period were written down and acted as guidelines for further data-analysis. At last the themes were categorized and sequenced into the final report.It was found that the educational function of kindergarten wall design has some dimensions: the face of kindergarten and the third teacher of children. In the research, it was also discovered that the teachers' understanding of wall displays was unilateral, and their focus of wall displays was different from the children's. In addition, this research found that different wall design could influence children differently.By analyzing the problems, the report tries to put forward some suggestions for the practice of kindergarten wall design: (1) Clear objective; (2) Rational programming; (3) Felicitous evaluation; (4) Proper deposit.
