Alongside the increasing globalization and internationalization of economy, the great effect of foreign language has become conspicuous, which became the important impact on economic development of each country and the basic tool for individuals to survive in the great competitive society. Low age in foreign language education has become one of the trends in the international foreign language education development. To strengthen the research into English education in the kindergarten is the demands for the education of Kindergarten for the sake of social development. But for a long time, the internal researches into English education in the kindergarten are bit week. Therefore, with the use of theories in language education for the preschool children, foreign language teaching and psycholinguistics, this dissertation made an investigation on the present situation of English education in sixteen kindergartens in the main urban districts in Chongqing, aiming to find out the main problems in English education in the kindergartens in Chongqing and to analyze the causes of these problems. To counter these problems and their causes, this dissertation has also proposed some tentative countermeasure to develop English education in the kindergartens in Chongqing.This dissertation consists of six parts, the first fourth of which deal with the theoretic and practical significance of English education in the kindergarten through discussing the background, conception and theoretic basis of it. The fifth part is an investigation on the present situation of English education in the kindergartens in the main urban districts in Chongqing by adopting stratified random sampling. By means of questionnaire survey as well as interview survey, the author made the investigation, which involve such two dimensions as the attitudes and practice, and the subjects included English teachers, children's Parents, the directors of the kindergartens and the educational research workers. Through employing thespss10.0, the author made the statistical analysis of the data so as to find out the problems existing in English education in the kindergarten in chongqing and the reasons.The survey showes that there are some problems on the aspects of attitude and that of practice hi English education in the kindergartens in Chongqing.In details,the internal value of English education in the kindergartens towards children's development is ignored by the kindergartens,the educational goals can't satisfy parents' demands,the educational contents are a bit difficult for the children,the educational implementation can't suit for children's development because of the backward forms and methods,the evaluation standards of parents are single,the educational levels of the English teachers in the kindergartens are not high and the cooperations between the kindergartens and the parents on English education in the kindergartens are not optimistic. On the base, the dissertation discussed how to improve it. Firstly, to renew our educational idea and build up correct guiding ideology. Secondly, to conform to the needs of educational reform and integrate the educational goals and contents.Thirdly, to full develop the children's subjectivity. Fourthly, to focus on the children's interests and understanding and set up various evaluation standards. Fifthly, to strengthen teacher's training so as to improve teachers' levels. Sixthly, to exploit and make use of family education resources and build up ample language circumstances. Seventhly,to unify management and unite each force to strengthen the construction of the scientific research organization.
