Abstract/Summary:
The thesis studies the demonstration teaching which refers to the display of things and items in the kindergarten class prepared by teacher before class in order to provide references for the children to do painting. Demonstration teaching includes pictures (photos, painting, etc.), physical objects, videos, a live demonstration of behavior and practice performed by teachers to the children.Demonstration teaching was the main teaching method of drawing in kindergarten. With the kindergarten curriculum reform, the traditional art teaching technique, for its emphasis on drawing skills, is widely criticized by the experts of early childhood education. Hence the demonstration teaching, as the main representative of traditional art teaching, is considered to seriously detain children's imagination and creativity, and to bring bad effect on the self-confidence of kids. However, after more than twenty years' implementation of the curriculum reform, this kind of teaching method still prevails instead of to be vanished. There is also a lack of consensus among the experts of early childhood education and the first-line of teachers. This thesis conducts detailed observation and record of the teaching process of painting in kindergarteners class, collects a large number of children paintings for analysis in order to understand the status of demonstration teaching in kindergarten, to explicate its meaning and problem, and to make reference for better painting activity organization.The first part is an introduction. The thesis focuses on the development of demonstration teaching, significance of the topic and related research. Demonstration teaching as a basic method of art education has played an important role in our country and abroad. Nowadays in China, it is still the basic methods of teaching children painting. Although criticized by many, its status in early childhood art education is still cannot be overlooked. The thesis will make efforts to reveal the status of teaching demonstration of drawing class through the observation and analysis of teaching activities. The design of this study includes the selection of research object, the use of research methods, the clarification of research purpose, the description of research process and the elucidation of research route.The second part shows the basic structure of demonstration in kindergarten, which includes the purpose of demonstration, the types of demonstration, the time of demonstration and the teachers'attitude of demonstration. And that will be the foundation for the next survey.The third part reveals the status of demonstration teaching in the kindergarten painting class. By adopting simple statistical methods, the thesis makes a comprehensive presentation of painting teaching in kindergarteners with respect to the large amounts of data, case studies and works collected through observation and interviews.The forth part analyzes the effect of on the drawing creation of young children. This part investigates a large number of collected paintings to clarify the different effects of demonstration and non-demonstration teaching on the drawing creation of children by combing the qualitative and quantitative research methods.Finally, based on the analysis results, the thesis summarizes the problems of the current demonstration teaching and offers countermeasure for improvement.
