Cooperative learning which is based on social-psychology originated in the U.S. in 1970s and is a creative and effective teaching theory and strategy being employed widely by many countries nowadays. So far, Cooperative learning has been developed and studied for decades, and the practice of cooperative learning can be found in a number of countries and regions in the world. However the method of promoting students'gaining new knowledge during the process of teaching has not been aroused enough attention or got the same understanding among the teachers. In the traditional teaching, teachers neglect the resource of the students themselves, their initiative and motivation and the interactive effect in the students'learning. On the other hand, English reading teaching is becoming more and more important in English teaching during these years. The traditional English reading teaching mode which puts its emphasis on the forms of language and the language to be comprehended is not suitable for modern teaching. The present paper tries to implement the Cooperative Teaching and Learning Model in Senior High School English Reading in hope of improving learner's autonomy and reading ability. First, this paper introduces the definition of co-operative leaning and English reading teaching, their theory basis.After that, it studies the basic organization forms and the teaching mode of the Cooperative Teaching and Learning Mode in Senior High School English Reading and explains them by means of teaching cases.Finally, by means of its experiment, the conclusion is as follows: Cooperative Teaching and Learning Mode in Senior High School English Reading can stimulate students'reading interests; build the students'reading motive and self-esteem; improve the students'reading ability; form the effective learning strategies; promote their cultural accomplishment; promote the reform and development of the learners'intelligence and non-intelligence.
