The Whole-text-based Teaching models refers to instructing students to draw the graph of the text structure and to absorb the whole meaning of the text. So it has been the difficult point in primary English teaching in these recent years. This research takes the higher grades in YuYing Primary School as an example, tries to find out the appropriate teaching procedures to solve the problems in the Whole-text -based teaching.This research bases on the New Standard English textbooks published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. All the texts in each module are related to the students'daily life, and can be divided into three categories:the first is Chinese traditional stories, the second is about important festivals in western countries, and the third can show the pragmatic functions. According to the three kinds of texts, the researcher tries to construct suitable teaching models to achieve a better teaching effect. The Chinese story teaching model focuses on acting and moral cultivating, the teaching model for the important festivals helps students to using effective strategies to increase reading speed, improving reading comprehension. The third teaching model tires to develop reading skills and form the reading habits.This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one mainly reviews the reasons to study the Whole-text-based teaching, the previous studies on the Whole-text-based teaching and the research objectives and process. Chapter two states the basic theories, teaching practice, teaching strategies as well as procedures and means of teaching of the Whole-text-based teaching models. Chapter three describes the teaching effects of applying the Whole-text -based teaching models in detail. Chapter four discusses some teaching problems we should pay attention to of applying the Whole-text-based teaching models.All the teachers and the students benefit a lot from this three years' research, and also find some effective methods to solve the problems in the Whole-text -based teaching.
