| The research of the competencies model of entrepreneurs is one of the critical issues of Human Resource Management research now. But in China, the special research on the competency model of police officers, especially criminal police officers, has not been done. We conducted the Behavioral Event Interview with 20 criminal police officers from Shanghai and Jiangsu province, including 10 superstars and 10 average performers according to specific performing standard. A BEI is a structured interview that is used to collect information about past behavior. In a BEI, the interviewee will be asked to talk about his past work experiences, usually three successful things and three failure things. Then we established the competency model of criminal police officers, which was composed by definition of the competency, behaviors and examples. Finally we validated the competency model of criminal police officers by Group Focus Interview and Comparison methods. The following is our main findings:Firstly, in the establishing of the competency model of criminal police officers using BEI method, we found that competency scores using coding standard of average level, using coding standard of competency frequencies and using coding standard of maximal level all show reliability. And we also find that competency scores using coding standard of average level and using coding standard of maximal level of complexity can differentiate superstars and average performers.Secondly, through Behavioral Event Interview, ten competencies were identified, which are Interpersonal Understanding, Self-confidence, Information Collecting, Influence, Team Work, Initiative, Crisis Management, Learning Capability, Analytical Thinking and Critical Thinking. And in all the ten competencies. there were five competencies being similar to that of the competency model of police officers in the foreign countries. And Self-confidence, Information Collecting, Initiative, Learning Capability and Critical Thinking are the exclusive competencies which are included in the competency model of criminal police officers in China.Thirdly, through Group Focus Interview, we got some valid explanations about competency model of criminal police officers.In all, the results and findings in this research are helpful to criminal police officers management including selection, training and development, performance appraisal, compensation management and career development planning. |
