English, a global Language, is an essential tool for world's science and technology progress, national economic development and cultural exchange, and has become an integral skill for individual development. The researcher, faced with the difficulties in English teaching in secondary vocational schools in China, attempts to explore vocational orientation teaching within the student-oriented English teaching approach and carry out an experiment, aiming to achieve better English teaching results and prepare the students with better English skills.In Introduction to the thesis, the background and the purpose of the research are presented, and a brief analysis of current pedagogical reforms on English teaching in secondary vocational schools, the current situation as well as the developing trend are explained subsequently.In the first chapter, the researcher puts forward the essential views based on the relevant educational and instructional theories, and sets forth some key concepts, research framework and methodology of the present research.In the second chapter, the author makes an investigation into the current English teaching problems in the secondary vocational schools of Rudong County, focusing on the three aspects -- students, teachers and course arrangement, by means of questionnaires, examinations, interviews and observations, etc.In the third chapter, based on the investigation and analysis results, the author starts with the two key concepts of "vocational orientation" and "student-oriented teaching approach", bring forward a comprehensive strategy for the reform on the curriculum provision and the teaching contents, implementation of English teaching and teaching evaluation, and introduces the experimental cases of secondary vocational school based curriculum development, teaching implementation and teaching evaluation respectively.In the Conclusion, the author presents the research findings of "vocational orientation teaching within the student-oriented English teaching approach in secondary vocational schools", and provides with a reflective thinking on the difficulties, and limitations of the research.
