Based on the legends of folk gods in Fujian-Taiwan, the article dwells upon the following aspects: first, explicates the history of Fujian god legends: brewed during Qin-Han dynasty, massively created during Tang-Song dynasty, and flourish after Ming-Qing dynasty; then divides the massive legends into several groups, and discusses the character of humanism and secularization of gods, as well as the characters of contrary and unity in pursuit of orthodox and native; then analysis the religious function and the function of indoctrination of the gods legends, such as advocating piety , patriotic and goodness. Finally, the paper selects the legends of Zhang-shengjun in Fujian-Taiwan, elaborating the initial, development and definition of the legends. From the viewpoints of historical documents and fieldwork, the article probes deeply into the spread, development, current different situation and cultural exchange of Zhang-shengjun belief and legends in some different areas in Fujian which are caused by different dialects and environment. From the legends and folk customs activities, the paper reveals that the quintessence of Zhang-shengjun belief is rural worship. The article also gives an introduction on the cultural exchange of Zhang-shengjun belief between Fujian and Taiwan and points out its great significance .
