A Report On The C-E Translation Of Folk Legends Of Immortal Poet Li Bai(Chapter 1 To Chapter 15)

The original text of this translation project is selected from Chapter 1 to Chapter 15 of Folk Legends of Immortal Poet Li Bai,which consists of many stories of Li Bai.As is known to all,folk legend is one of the most important achievements made by human beings.Folk legends of Li Bai,as an essence of traditional Chinese culture,are relatively not much known by western people.And some current translations of Li Bai's poems have not become prevalent in western countries due to cultural differences.And it is rare to see versions of folk legends of Li Bai in foreign countries.Such a situation not only limits foreign people to know more about Chinese culture,but also hinders the preservation of global cultural diversity.In order to introduce this Chinese culture to more foreign readers and encourage more people to join in the preservation,collection and translation of folk legends of Li Bai,the author translates some chapters in this book,hoping to promote cultural exchanges.During the translating process,the author inevitably comes across lots of translation problems,such as the translation of official positions,places,idioms and allusions and poems.To solve all these problems,the author reads and takes a deep dive into many translation works and books about translation theory,getting theoretical enlightenments.The target of this translation project is to introduce Chinese culture to foreign readers and let Chinese culture to “go out”,so the author adopts the Skopos theory as her guiding theory.In the process of writing this report,the author highlights the application of literal translation,free translation,transliteration plus annotation and addition.What's more,the author adopts Snowman Computer Assisted Translation Software which boasts the following advantages: Firstly,it is very easy to learn and operate to a green hand in CAT.Secondly,it has a clear interface which is convenient for translator to review and go proofreading.Thirdly,this software is free and offers the author many functions for effective translation.However,Snowman software still has some disadvantages including limited terminology database,limited jargon and information about translating poems and folk legends.After the translation,the author improves her translation ability in literary translation and deepens her understanding of translation theories and methods.The author hopes that in the future more and more experts and scholars would join in collection and translation of Li Bai's culture,which will tremendously protect this intangible cultural heritage and enrich researches and translations of Li Bai's poems and folk legends,achieving regional economic development and enhancing influence of Chinese culture.
