The thesis is a report of the Chinese-English translation of Folk Legends of Immortal Poet Li Bai.The immensely readable book adopts the traditional way of narration and combines bold imagination to describe the image of the greatest romantic poet Li Bai.Building a vivid image of Li Bai and conveying the spirit of Li Bai are effective ways of transmitting Chinese culture. But,how to translate the book in appropriate language and to how present a vivid Li Bai to the world have become a difficulty. The author completed the translation under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory of the American translation theorist Eugene Nida.Functional Equivalence Theory emphasizes the response of readers and holds the view that the translation not only includes the equivalence of meaning and style but the equivalence of readers' response.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence, the author analyzed Folk Legends of Immortal Poet Li Bai from three aspects: vocabulary, sentence and poem. Finally, the author found the following methods are efficient: literal translation and literal translation with adding or interpreting, transliteration and transliteration with adding or interpreting, free translation, foreignization and domestication etc.Of course,it is easy to find that functional equivalence is appropriate for the translation of folk legends by analyzing these translation techniques mentioned above.
