The measure word is one special word type in Sino-Tibetan family of languages, as well as one embodying typical national characteristics in Chinese expression systems. For a long time, the measure word teaching has also been one of the difficulties for overseas students in Chinese as a Foreign Language. Besides, as the measure word for nouns bear a large quantity and have complicated collocation relationships with nouns, they have become the word type where Chinese learners make the most mistakes in their learning process. However, relevant studies so far have mostly focused upon an ontological research of the measure word for nouns, lack of an efficient and scientific way on the noun-classifiers teaching;as a result, the conclusions are mostly general, too theoretical and abstract.This paper, while drawing on the research findings from previous studies, under the guidance of Second Language Learning Acquisition theory, applies such methodology as contrastive analysis, questionnaire, interviewing, literature searching, induction/summarizing and so on. Taking the noun-classifiers teaching in Chinese as a Foreign Language as point of departure, the study intends to make an all-round investigation and analysis on all steps of noun-classifiers teaching, including the basic contents of the theory itself, the syllabus and enlisting of textbooks, the learning situation of overseas students as well as different teaching methods of the teachers and so on. It also proposes suggestions as how to draw up the syllabus and compile textbooks and how to divide different levels in noun-classifiers teaching while providing correspondent teaching strategies, in the hope of promoting the development in the measure word for nouns teaching in Chinese as a Foreign Language in the future.This paper consists of four chapters:Chapter one is introduction, the which systematically overviews the research background, research purpose and significance of this paper. It also puts forward a literature review of previous studies as well as research contents and methodology of this paper.Chapter two after an observation and analysis of the measure word for nouns in both the teaching syllabus and textbooks, summarizes the differences in their arrangements of the measure word for nouns and points out the advantages and disadvantages.Chapter three investigates and analyzes the the measure word for nouns teaching in Chinese as a Foreign Language. After a questionnaire and interview of the teachers, it sums up their methods in teaching the measure word for nouns, their opinions and advice on textbooks; through a questionnaire of the students, it gets to know their mastery of important Chinese the measure word for nouns points of the students on different levels; after an analysis of the research results, it draws a conclusion of the measure word for nouns learning order in terms of degree of difficulty.Chapter four focus on the introduction of strategies of the measure word for nouns teaching in Chinese as a Foreign Language. Given the current situation and present problems, this chapter proposes suggestions as how to draw up the syllabus and compile textbooks. It also designates the specific the measure word for nouns scope and corresponding methods in each step of the Chinese teaching as a foreign language.
