Objective: To better understand the quality of life and its'influencing factors of the nurse in Kunming tertiary hospitals and to provide the information for improving their quality of life for health policy makers and health administratorsMethods: Cluster random sampling was conducted and 1018 nurses were involved this survey during October 2008 and May 2009, who come from nine tertiary hospitals in Kunming. WHOQOL-100 and the interviewees'basic information were collected and using PEMS 3.1 to analyze the data; t-test,Χ2 test, ANOVA, q-test and Multiple stepwise regression were used to help the data analysis.Results: 1. The age of all the interviewees between 20 to 52 years old, and the average age is 32.91±8.76 years old.2. The score for quality of life of the tertiary hospital nurse in Kunming lower than the national norm scores; the scores of low-aged and low-seniority nurse higher than the high-aged and high seniority, in terms of both physiological and psychological aspects, however when it comes to the environment and overall quality of life as well as health status scores are lower than the high-aged and high-seniority; the quality of life of the high grade nurses are higher than the low; nursing administrators are higher than the ordinary nurses; high-income nurses are higher than the low-income; the quality of life of highly educated nurses are higher than the nurses with low educational attainment; nurses of unmarried and married are higher than other nurses such as divorced and widowed; quality of life of the nurses in Internal Medicine and Surgery departments are the highest among all the nurses, and next is the nurses in the Gynecology, pediatrics department and nurses in emergency department and ICU department is the worst; nurses with less night shift have higher quality of life than those with much more night shifts; official nurses are higher than the temporary; nurses in comprehensive hospital and excellent hospitals are higher than nurses in the specialist hospitals and small hospitals. 3. The result of multiple regression shows that the influencing factors involving the monthly income, self-rating of quality of life, job satisfaction, health status, sleep time, degree of the family harmony, the nature of employment, respect from patients. Moreover, the factors mentioned above have positively correlated with nurses'quality of life.Conclusion: it is not to be optimistic in terms of the nurses'quality of life in Kunming tertiary hospitals; therefore the related health policy makers and health administrators should take measures to improve the quality of life of nurses in Kunming according to different situation.
