ObjectiveDepression is a kind of serious psychosomatic disease, it characterized by marked and lasting depressed mood, body discomfort and sleep-disorder, diminished ability to think or concentrate or indecisiveness. According to the report of WHO, during this century, the mental disease is the main disease of human, especially depression. Forecasting depression will be the second killer after heart disease. Application of western medicine is greatly limited due to treatment result is low, besides, severe side effect and the price is high. On the other hand, Acupuncture and Chinese medicine has got the affirmative curative effect on depression and has no side effect and the price is low, which is greatly welcomed by depression-patients. Acupuncture will become a new trend and method in treating depression. Viewing both traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western medicine, it is believed that the brain and the liver are the concerned organs for depression, so the dysfunction of brain and liver failing to sooth and regulate the circulation of "qi" are the TCM's pathogenesis of depression. Reviewing history of depression with Chinese acupuncture therapy, six points including "baihui", "yintong" "shenting", "fengchi", "neikuang", "sanyinjiao" were highly used. Besides, we use Chinese herbal medicine "xiao yiao san" together with above six points to make the clinical and experimental comparison with western medicine "fluovetine" and discussed the mechanism in order to instruct the clinical practice.MethodRandomly dividing 50 depression patients into treatment group and control group, treatment group using captioned needling points and Chinese medicine "xiao yiao san ", control group using western medicine "fluovetine" to operate. HAMD and SDS are used to observe the experimental results before and after treatment.ResultAfter experiment, observing the result of HAMD report, all the figures in two group descended markedly after treatment, (P<0.01), but the treatment result of experimental group is much better than the control group (P<0.01)ConclusionChinese acupuncture therapy plus Chinese herbal medicine "xiao yiao san" is more effect than western medicine "fluovetine"...
