Objective: To explore the relationship between gingivitis in orthodontic treatment and the composition of mental brace.Methods:1. 100 patients received orthodontic treatment were selected randomly in our department and devided into two groups:A and B.There were 50 patients in each group:male(25) and female(25).Two groups were bonded to different mental brace. After 1 month,3 months and 6 months, gingival index was calculated.2. The components of two kinds of mental brace were measured by the scaning electron microscope and inductive coupling plasma launch spectroscope qualitatively and quantificationally.3. The two kinds of brace were soaked in artificial saliva for three months ,then, the amount of nickel, chrome and beryllium in artificial saliva were detected by graphite oven atom absorption spectroscope.Results:1. Compare the prevalence rate of gingivitis between two groups at the end of 1 month, there was no significant difference in statistics(p>0.05),and at the end of 3 and 6 months, group A was lower(p<0.05).2. The main components of group A were cobalt(49.18%),chromium(24.59%),while in group B iron(68.96%), chromium(15.29%).3. There was no significant difference in the amount of chromium in artificial saliva between two groups(p>0.05).There was difference in nickel and beryllium(p<0.05),and group A is lower.Conclusion:1. The prevalence of gingivitis in orthodontic treatment is related with the components of mental brace.2.Cytotoxic nickel and beryllium in artificial saliva is higher in group B than A,this is possiblely the factor leading to the higher prevalence rate in group B.
