Objective:To detect calprotectin((Calprotectin,S100A8/9)and matrix metalloproteinase 8(matrix metalloproteinase-8,MMP-8)levels in saliva under different periodontal conditions.Analysis of the relationship betw een MMP-8,S100A8/9 and the periodontal clinical indicators,explore the diagnostic value of periodontal disease and the feasibility of MMP-8 and S100A8/9 as biomarkers in chronic periodontitis saliva.Methods: Healthy periodontal patients,chronic gingivitis patients,and chronic periodontitis patients were selected and divided into 3 groups.The whole unstimulated saliva of each group of subjects was collected,and periodontal clinical indicators such as PLI,BOP,PD,and AL were recorded.The levels of MMP-8 and S100A8/9 in saliva were detected by ELISA and analyzed statistically.Results:1.MMP-8 concentration in saliva: periodontal health group,chronicgingivitis group,chronic periodontitis group were(1449.83±186.68)pg/ml,(1773.98±184.54)pg/ml,(2556.93±445.04)pg/ml,the chronic periodontitis group is higher than the chronic gingivitis group and the periodontal health group,the difference is statistically significant(P<0.05),and the chronic gingivitis group is higher than the periodontal health group,the difference is statistically significant.(P<0.05)2.S100A8/9 concentration in saliva: periodontal health group,chronic gingivitis group,chronic periodontitis group were(299.15±25.82)pg/ml,(316.06±16.82)pg/ml,(380.59±51.33)pg/ml,the concentration of S1008/9 in the chronic periodontitis group was higher than that in the chronic gingivitis group and the periodontal health group,and the difference was statistically significant.(P<0.05)The chronic gingivitis group was higher than the periodontal health group,and the difference was not statistically significant.(P>0.05)3.The concentrations of MMP-8 and S100A8/9 were significantly positively correlated with PLI,BOP,PD,and AL.(P<0.01)Conclusions:1.The level of MMP-8 in saliva was significantly different between the chronic periodontitis group,the chronic gingivitis group and the periodontal health group,and it increased with the increase of the periodontal inflammation,indicating that MMP-8 in saliva can reflect the degree of periodontal tissue inflammation and may become an objective indicator for the diagnosis of chronic gingivitis and chronic periodontitis.2.The level of S100A8/9 in saliva is higher in the chronic periodontitis group than in the chronic gingivitis group and the periodontal health group;but there is no significant difference between the chronic gingivitis group and the periodontal health group,suggesting that S100A8/9 may be an objective indicator for the diagnosis of chronic periodontitis.3.There was a significant positive correlation between the levels ofMMP-8 and S100A8/9 in saliva and the periodontal clinical indicators PLI,PD,BOP,AL,indicating that the expression levels of MMP-8 and S100A8/9 and the occurrence of periodontal inflammation development is closely related and may become objective indicators for judging the progression and indexing of chronic periodontitis.4.MMP-8 and S100A8/9 are both feasible as biomarkers in chronic periodontitis saliva.
