Objective:Describe the status of quality of life of the clients with post-stroke depression; Clear the differences of quality of life of the clients with post-stroke depression among the degree of mild, moderate, severe; Investigate the relationships between general demographic data of clients and the quality of life of the clients with post-stroke depression of different degrees; Clear the factors that affect the quality of life of the clients with post-stroke depression of different degrees of mild, moderate, severe.Methods:This study was a correlation study belonging to non-experimental study and a cross-sectional study in order to study the clients with post-stroke depression of different degrees; the data were collected by handing out several questionnaires. These questionnaires included three questionnaires:(1) General demographic characteristic questionnaire; (2) Hamilton Depression Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD or HRSD); (3) stroke scale quality of life (SS-QOL).200 cases of the clients with post-stroke depression in hospital or out-hospital were investigated in four hospitals of two grade or above in the city of Jinzhou, in Liaoning Province. All the data were analyzed by spssl3.0 statistical software from June 2009 to February 2010.Results:(1) The cases of post-stroke depression of the acute were 96 clients (48% of the total number of patients), the cases of post-stroke depression of convalescence were 68 clients (34% of the total number of clients).(2) The quality of life of mild depression group, moderate depression group, patients with severe depression had statistically significant differences (all of them P<0.05) in the Total score and six latitudes of energy, language, activities, upper extremity function, work or labor; there was no significant difference in other scores (all of them P>0.05). (3)In the mild depression group, patients of different ages, and gender whose quality of life was significant difference (all P<0.05); quality of life of patients with different education levels are more significant (P<0.05). In the moderate depression group, patients of different age, income and neurological impairment whose quality of life was statistical significance (P<0.05). In the major depression group, patients of different ages and gender whose quality of life was statistical significance (P<0.05).(4) In addition to individual factors, HAMD score was all negatively correlated to the score of the SS-QOL.Conclusions(1) The acute phase and Convalescence of post-stroke were the high incidence of depression.(2) The quality of life score, energy, language, activities, work or labor 5 latitude of the mild stroke depression group were better than those of the group with moderate post-stroke depression and the group with severe post-stroke depression; Upper limb function of the group with moderate post-stroke depression was better than that of the group with mild post-stroke depression.(3) Different socio-demographic characteristics of patients with depression have different quality of life. In the mild depression group, younger age, male gender, higher educational level of poor quality of life of patients. In the moderate depression group, younger age, lower income, the more serious neurological deficits in patients with poor quality of life. In the major depression group, the older, poorer quality of life of women.(4)The Status of depression was an important related factor to the quality of life of the clients with post-stroke depression.
