Objective: To investigate nurses' cognition of childhood fever in China and analyze the factors that affect nurses' cognition of childhood fever to improve the cognition of nurses, after introducing 'Nursing Cognition Scale of Fever Management' from Australia and evaluating its reliability and validity. Methods: After translation and back-translation, the reliability and validity of the questionnaire was evaluated by pilot study; 248 nurses of Paediatrics and Emergence Department were investigated by the questionnaire. All the data were analyzed by SPSS11.5. Statistical methods such as Cronbach'αcoefficient, Split-half coefficient, test-retest reliability coefficient, factor analysis were used to assess the questionnaire, T-test, the one-way ANOVA analysis and multiple linear regression were used to evaluate the cognition status.Results:1 The Split-half coefficient of Nurses' knowledge and every factors of it were 0.63, 0.56, 0.59, 0.60; the Cronbach'αcoefficient of Nurses' Attitude and Paracetamol Application were 0.65, 0.57, 0.72, 0.60, 0.93, 0.77, 0.94, 0.73, 0.55 respectively. The test-retest reliability coefficient of the questionnaire were between 0.63 and 0.95. The CVI of the questionnaire was 0.81.2 The scores of nurses' knowledge were lower than medial level. The social information, such as professional title, hardly affect the scores of nurses.3 The scores of nurses' attitude to childhood fever were higher than medial level. Nurses' attitude is positive, which is in line with other literatures. The level and professional title of nurses were the factors which mostly affect nurses' attitude.4 The scores of paracetamol application were 1.09±2.92, 15.29±17.80, 2.10±7.94, 8.68±11.59 and 0.01±9.62. The behavior of nurses' application of paracetamol were greatly influenced by nurses' attitudes and norms, R~2 was 0.184.Conclusion: 1 The Chinese version of 'Nurses' Cognition of Childhood Fever Scale' is reliable and valid, and it can be used to investigate the cognition of nurses to childhood fever.2 The knowledge of nurses was lower than medial level. The training manual of fever maybe different in different district, which is in badly need of unity. The status of nurses' knowledge should be studied by length wise to direct the related trainings.3 The attitudes of nurses to fever, antipyretics and febrile convulsion were coincident with other studies, which were positive.4 Anticipate the behavior of paracetamol application by TPB, which were mostly influenced by nurses' attitudes and norms.
