Research On Compatibility Of Tonic Formulae In Prescriptions Of Peaceful Benevolent Dispensary

Objective: "Prescriptions of Peaceful Benevolent Dispensary" (the dispensary hereinafter) is the first Pharmacopoeia in history. Many prescriptions in it are still widely used in clinical practice today. The research project is to find out the compatibility of tonic formulae,so as to serve as a reference for the treat of asthenia syndrome in clinical practice.Methods: By adopting literature-adjusting method of investigating sources,a database of the indications and the usage is set up by Microsoft Excel.Result: There are 134 tonic formulae in the dispensary in all. There are 71 formulae warming yang and reinforcing Qi,19 reinforcing Yin and blood formulae,44 reinforcing Yin and Yang formulae among them. The dispensary relates to traditional Chinese medicine together 288 taste. In the formulae warming yang and reinforcing Qi, there are 24% diuretics for eliminating dampness,15% drugs for regulating Qi flow,11% drugs for arresting discharge besides the drugs for tonification and the drugs for dispelling internal cold. In the reinforcing Yin and blood formulae, there are 15% drugs for invigorating blood circulation and eliminating stasis,13% drugs for dispelling internal cold and 11% drugs for sedative and tranqilizing besides the drugs for tonification. There are 79 tonic formulae made some pointed references to long-term use in the book constituted 59% of total formulae. There are 67.19% warm-natured drugs and only 10.94% cold-natured drugs in the drugs of the tonic formulae in the dispensary using frequency exceed 3 times.Conclusion: 1.With compatibility of medicine aspect,the dispensary value the combination of dynamic and static. The formulae warming yang and reinforcing Qi often assort drugs for dispelling internal cold, drugs for regulating QI flow and diuretics for eliminating dampness. The reinforcing Yin and blood formulae often assort drugs for invigorating blood circulation and eliminating stasis, the drugs for dispelling internal cold and the drugs for sedative and tranqilizing. 2.Warming tonification is the programme to cure asthenia syndrome. Disorder due to insufficiency of Yang has needed warming tonification no doubt, disorder due to insufficiency of Yin also required warming tonification. 3.As show as the databases, formulae warming yang and reinforcing Qi also match some cold drug in despite of the dispensary let febrile dryness dominates. 4.Tonic formulae in the dispensary encourage tonic while you are well.But this should not be thought to be a basis of excessive tonification.
