Preliminary Construction Of An Evaluation System For Nursing Students' Humanistic Quality

OBJECTIVES:The guiding ideology of humanistic education in Universities is to make students internalize the outstanding cultural achievements into personal characteristics,which is the relative stable internal quality including personality, temperament,self-cultivation.This characteristics is mainly through imparting knowledge,nurturing environment and self-practice.The nursing humanistic education in Universities is the required subject for nurses to create perfect outlook, value,professional ethics,social responsibility and healthy personality.Therefore, an evaluation index system is needed for the humanistic education in nursing students which can reflect the quality and determine the value of the state of the humanities.This value judgment is not only an important content and indicator in inspecting whether a care worker have the concept of humane care,but also an important factor to judge whether the humanities teaching and learning activities is successful or not.But the theory and practice studies about humanistic quality evaluation are also deficiency.Especially nursing speciality.The studies about nursing humanistic qualities evaluation are deficiency.Because the effects are obscure and the indication is diverse and ambiguous of humanistic quality.So the evaluation is complexity and difficult,the results are hard to quantify.So the study about humanistic qualities evaluation index system plays an important role in enhancing full - scale,coordinative,sustained development of the nursing humanistic education.So the study for nursing humanistic qualities can be offered to evaluate the nursing students' humanistic qualities,to make up the insufficient humanistic qualities evaluation of medical schools' comprehensive qualities evaluation.Besides, it is also as theoretical basis for higher nursing education.SUBJECTS AND METHODS:Using the Delphi method,a total of 20 experts in our university and affiliated hospitals were consulted.The questionnaire of expert consultation,which was based authorities consultation and retrospective literatures,incorporated nursing speciality,was designed according to the result of the pilot study such as《The Chinese citizens humanistic quality report》as the main reference.through 3-rounded consultation,after every round,the opinions of experts had been induced,arranged, statisted and analyzed.We have proceeded to set up the evaluation method about weight set by means of precedence chart and experts consultation.The questionnaire of nursing students was based the nursing evaluation index system.A total of 140 nursing students coming from aⅢhospital in Guangzhou was selected by using random sampling,distributing 140,reclaiming 130,only 129 validity,effective power is 92.1 percent.In the study,describing statistics was used to analyze demographic constitution of experts.Mean,coefficient of variance and etc was used to describe the experts' opinion of the importance of the item;and coefficient of Kendall's W,percentage of questionnaire received and the authority degree of experts were used to examine the reliability and representation of expert consultation.In the self-survey of nursing students,the internal consistency of questionnaire was examined by calculating Cronbach alpha;construct validity was evaluated by correlation analysis and factor analysis.Independent sample t test was used to analyze group difference in demographic characteristic of nursing students.The data was analyzed by using statistical package for social sciences(SPSS) 13.0.RESULTS:1.Reliability and consistency of the expert consultationAccording to demographic factors,the experts show higher education level, have an intimate knowledge of humanity and nursing speciality,have a certain humanity practice and education evaluation experience.Their opinions are full-scale. Authority degree of experts is between 0.75 with 0.98,the total authority degree is 0.83.Generally speaking,Authority degree of experts which has been greater than or equal to 0.70 is accepted.Therefore,based on practice and theory,the expert consultation had high reliability.The percentage of questionnaire received from the three rounds of experts consultation were 90%,95%,95%.In every received questionnaire,every experts were serious.The coefficient of Kendall's W of 3-rounds were 0.174,0.215 and 0.255(P＜0.01) respectively.The coefficient of Kendall's W is range from 0 to 1,the bigger one,the higher consistency.The study for 3- rounds provides sufficient evidence of high consistency among experts opinions.2.Filtrate index and set weight of itemUsing Likert5-scale method to describe the experts' opinion of the importance of the items,through 3-rounds experts consultation,incorporated:opinions and group discussion,filtrate item from 3^rd to 2^nd,Finally formed 40 items of the index system.The weight set of 1^st by means of precedence chart,the weight set of 2^nd by experts consultation.The study indicates that evaluation index system had logical consistency.The weight set of the 5 1^st included moral quality,cultural quality,legal quality,esthetic quality and psychological quality,were 0.3000,0.1850,0.1950, 0.1375 and 0.1825.3.Application of the nursing evaluation index systemAccording to the general principles of measurement,self- survey in nursing students was performed successfully.As a result.The Cronbach alpha of the total evaluation index system was 0.967 and that of each domain in the 1^st grade index ranged from 0.850-0.931(＞0.850).It showed that the questionnaire had a higher reliability;the correlation coefficient between the total index system and each domain showed that correlation was significant at the 0.01 level(2-tailed).the total index system and each domain and inside the 1^st showed that the index system had a better homogeneity.The factor analysis result showed that 5 factors were picked up which proved the function of the index system.The cumulative extraction sum of squared loading was 64.159%,these data suggest that configuration of questionnaire was accordant to the result of factor analysis in the main.The questionnaire had a better construct validity.CONCLUSIONS:1.The definition of the concept of humanity quality and connotation of nursing students' humanistic quality.The concept of humanity quality was disputing and connotation of nursing students' humanistic quality was indefinitely.Under this condition.Based on the comparison of document research,induction and extraction,group discussion, Experts consultation and etc,The concept of humanity quality was unified and the connotation of nursing students' humanistic quality was settled.It provided theoretical foundation to the relevant study.2.The establishment of the nursing students' humanistic quality evaluation index system.Based on the methods of theory analysis,document research,Delphi experts consultation,precedence chart and etc,the items of evaluation system was selected, the standards with 5 different levels for each item and the weight for each item were set,thus the evaluation index system of humanistic quality of nursing students was initially established.Including 5 1^st indexes and 40 2^nd indexes.3.The test about rationality and feasibility of the evaluation system.According to the nursing students' self-survey,we concluded that the evaluation index system had both rationality and feasibility,and the assessment model had a better reliability and validity,it provided a standard evaluation pattern for higher nursing education and nurses humanistic qualities in hospitals in the coming future.4.Suggestions for further studyThough the evaluation index system and the evaluation standards of 5 different levels for each item had been revised by 3-rounds of experts consultation,there were still some shortcomings which need to be improved in the further research.The reliability and representation of the nursing students' self-survey were inadequate, which need to be further proved,revised and perfected through carrying out big sample and scope survey in the future,someone's humanistic quality is influenced by many factors,only education factor in this article was analyzed,other factors,such as personality character,family factors,the growth environmental and so on has not carried on the analysis to its humanities qualities,because of the limited time and knowledge,some problems which were discussed and analyzed unilateral.It needs to be improved in the future.
