With the globalization of trade in services, as well as the reformation of medical institutions, public hosipitals are facing increasingly fierce competition in the market. In the final analysis, the market competition is a talent competition, and the excellent talents play a vital role in the development of hosipitals. How to motivate staff to encourage the staff's enthusiam and enhance the core competitiveness of hosipital has become an important research topic for hosipital administrators. Immaterial motivation, as an important component of motivation, has enormous meanings to stimulate staff's work enthusiasm and initiative. At present, most of the domestic documents which study the enterprise refer to the foreign thesis and lack the theory of the public hospital, especially lack the study about the immaterial motivation of quantity study. Thus, this research takes the staff's needs as the breakthrough point, through discussing the characteristic of medical staff's needs, the importance of appraisal for immaterial motivation, the percipience to immaterial motivation and the staff's working activity, proposes the effective countermeasures of immaterial motivation to public hosipital.Through investigation and analysis, this research obtains the main conclusions as follows:①The medical staff's characteristics of needs in Chongqing public hosipital show that material needs and immaterial needs are both paid much attention to, but immaterial needs are paid more.②Immaterial motivation includes three dimensions: survival motivation, emotional motivation and development motivation. The medical staff of Chongqing public hosipital assert that immaterial motivation is important, of which the most important thing is emotional motivation, followed by survival motivation, and finally the development motivation.③The percipience to immaterial motivation of the medical staff in Chongqing public hospital is in the general level, in which the most perception is emotional motivation, followed by survival motivation, and finally the development motivation.④The working activity for medical staff in Chongqing public hosipital needs to be strengthened.⑤Staff with different sex, age, educational background, rank, position appraise differently in needs, appraisal of importance to immaterial motivation, percipience to immaterial motivation and working activity. The differences in some factors are still analogous to the significance.⑥Creating good hospital culture, providing job-related motivation, creating growth opportunities and other immaterial incentives could improve the medical staff's working activity effectively.
