The new guidelines for Health Care Reform that released in 2009 explicated the policy of combination between the government-led and market mechanisms in the health care system.Medical services will move towards a well-managed network led by market,which covers the whole population based on the basis of sound public health,medical services,medical insurance and medicine supplies.While improving the quality of medical treatment and providing safe, effective,convenient medical services with low cost to patients,the hospital should try to retain and expand its market share as such is crucial to its survival and development. This essay chooses Beijing Renhe Hospital - a non-government non-profit secondary-level hospital in China as the object of current research.The author holds that such research will be of great significance for exploring how large and medium-sized hospitals in China can get sustained competitiveness in a complex and ever-changing environment.Based on Porter's theory of the basic competition this essay intends to help hospitals to establish long - term competitive advantage.To achieve this goal, opportunities and challenges in the external environment,strengths and weaknesses in the,internal environment are analyzed in detail,and with the adoption of SWOT matrix,key internal and external factors affecting the hospital's development are assessed as well.Finally,it concludes that to win out,the hospital should take differentiated competitive strategy for its development.This research may shed some light on the management and operation of hospitals. Some strategic analysis and strategic management theory adopted in this essay can also serve as a guideline for large and medium-sized hospitals.
