With the deepening of the medical system reform and the opening of medical service market, private hospital, as a new matter of health care reform in our country, is facing rare opportunity and severe challenge. The private hospital should have a comprehensive and clear understanding of its own strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and challenges for its survival and development. And the strategic management theory and methodology must be applied into the operation and management of hospitals in order to change the unfavorable environment into favorable one and convert pressure to power. It should foster its own core competitive advantage through breakthrough the advantages of state hospitals in government resources, technology, scale, capital and reserve forces et al.By means of the modern strategic management theory and methodology, the key influential factors of the external and internal environments about M hospital are analyzed and its opportunities and challenges, strengths and weaknesses are displayed. Then the strategic target of 2009- 2019 is proposed for M hospital. On the basis of the above said, SWOT Matrix and QSPM Matrix are adopted to analyze the strategies that M hospital should use, and a set of strategy project is given out, which includes three stages. The first stage is market penetrating strategy, in which M hospital will obtain certain market share and its basic competitive ability will be fostered. The second stage is the strategies of product development and market development, in which the competitive ability of M hospital will be promoted through providing new products and services to the current markets and accessing them to new health management market. The third stage is horizontal integration strategy, in which M hospital should develop into a famous hospital with medical, consultation, teaching and research in one in home market by means of merging or holding some second-class or third-class hospital and cooperating with first-class hospital to obtain more market shares. Finally, the paper gives a brief discussion of the strategic control and evaluation of this development strategy.Through this research, we expect to help M Hospital to enhance its own core competitive advantage and provide guarantee for its further development. Meanwhile, we hope to provide some references for other private hospitals in their healthy growth. Besides, the above results could also be meaningful for the reform of the state hospitals while they are gradually pushed into the market.
