Objective:The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of Yunnan Baiyao on bone cell's activity and apoptosis in experimental diabetic periodontitis in rats as well as on the activity of PDL fibroblasts.Further more,the relationship of apoptosis and diabetic periodontitis was discussed,in order to provide scientific basis for the nosogenesi sand treatmentmethod:Seventy six-week-old male SD rats were randomly divided into two groups: diabetic periodontitis experimental group with Yunnan Baivao intragastric administration(DP1)and diabetic periodontitis nomal control group(DP2).Diabetic rats were induced by Intraperineal injection of streptozotocin(STZ).Periodontitis was initiated by ligating floss around maxillary second molars.Experimental animals were sacrificed by batches in two,four,six weeks after Yunnan Baiyao intragastric administration.HE coloration,TRAP coloration and apoptosis coloration were carried out to those samples.Histological examination included PLD fibroblast numbers, osteocyte number.osteoclast numbers in the inflammatory area.the percentage of apoptotic fibroblasts.the percentage of apoptotic osteocytes.Statistical significance was determined by one-way ANOVA with significance set at P<0.05.results:Two,four.and six weeks afterYunnan Baiyao administration,the blood sugar of rats inDP1 and DP2 was raising over time.But the comparison between two groups had no discrepancy(p>0.05).Two and four weeks afterYunnan Baiyao taken,there were no much differences in the number of PDL fibroblasts and osteocytes between DP1 group and DP2 group.But six weeks after the drug taken,the numbers of those cells were significant higher in DP1 group than in DP2 group(p<0.05).At the same time,the number of osteoclasts was lower in DP1 group than in DP2 group (p<0.05).There were no much differences in the percentage of apoptotic fibroblasts and the percentage of apoptotic osteocytes two and four weeks afterYunnan Baiyao taken between DP1 group and DP2 group.Six weeks afterYunnan Baiyao taken,the percentage of apoptotic fibroblasts and apoptotic osteocytes was less in DP1 group than in DP2 group(p<0.05).conclusion:Taken together,six weeks after Yunnan Baiyao taken,the experienment figured out that Yunnan Baiyao had obvious effection on inhibition to the apoptosis of alveolar bone in diabetic periodontitis rats.Also,six weeks after the drug taken,the decrement of PLD fibroblast numbers in diabetics periodontitis rats was inhibited.
